Andechs Abbey in Bavaria

Andechs Abbey can be reached in a little less than one hour from the Sonnenhof (60 km). It can be seen from afar above the east bank of Lake Ammer.

Second largest place of Pilgrimage in Bavaria

The abbey originated from Andechs Castle and to this date is still an important pilgrimage church. The “Holy Mountain“ of Andechs is the oldest and, after Altötting, the second largest place of pilgrimage in Bavaria.

The Benedictine monastery was founded in 1455. For more than half a millennium, the monastery with its monastery brewery, the brewery pub, the monastery distillery and the monastery inn have been a center of attraction for visitors from all over the world. Those who have experienced the magnificent view out over the landscape with its five lakes doubtlessly know exactly why this particular place was chosen for the location of the abbey.

Our tip: following an interesting guided tour of the monastery or brewery visit the magnificent beer garden and the “Florian Stadl” for well earned refreshment. ( www.andechs.de). A trip to the nearby Lake Ammer also offers numerous possibilities for spending an unforgettable day.
