Ottobeuren Basilica

The two 82 meter high onion towers of the basilica are visible from a great distance and strengthen the impression that the Ottobeuren Basilica is an imposing building and well worth a visit. You can reach Ottobeuren from the Sonnenhof by car in less than 30 minutes.

One of the most beautiful baroque churches in the South of Germany.

Richly decorated, late baroque dome and ceiling frescoes and the alter paintings by Johann Jakob and Anton Zeiler from Tirol delight the visitors from all parts of the world as also the two famous baroque choir organs by Karl Joseph Riepp.

The priest Sebastian Kneipp (1821-1897) was christened in 1821 and confirmed in 1830 in the Ottobeuren Basilica and as newly ordained priest celebrated his first mass at the altar of the holy cross there in 1852. (www.abtei-ottobeuren.de)
